Fluid Formations: Design and Fabrication of Soft Matter Structures with Functional Stiffness Gradients
Master Thesis project for the M.Sc. Programme Integrative Technologies & Architectural Design Research (ITECH), developed in collaboration with the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems.
Functionally graded objects take advantage of heterogeneous material properties to fulfill different design requirements as a single entity. A combinatory approach of material engineering and liquid additive manufacturing is implemented in this project to create functional stiffness graded objects with continuous mechanical property gradients. These property gradients are then utilized for the fabrication of objects with programmable behavior in response to applied forces.
