SHOPPING MALL CANOPY

A shopping mall commissioned the design for a canopy as part of its renovation project. Requirements stated that the canopy is to act as an environmentally-friendly sculpture, connecting the new entrances while preserving the current trees on site and harvesting rainwater and solar energy for the shopping mall.

The design and structural analysis workflow were developed in Grasshopper, using the architects’ landscape design in Rhino as input. This allowed for fast iteration of the design, as the geometry and structural behavior analysis were updated in real time for every change in the architectural design.
